Day number two in the woods with the amazing Chrissy started with a downpour that we listened as it slowly came through the canopy of the forest. First we all put on our rain jackets and hid under a Rhododendron, only to delay the inevitable for a few minutes. We then dashed across a stream to a meadow where we strung up a tarp between several trees and we all sat on a log under the shelter or abut an hour planning various contingencies, the best of which was that we were going to shoot a dancing in the rain number right here in the meadow.
When the rain stopped we emerged from our shelter into the saturated forest, surrounded by ferns. For the rest of the day we moved around the confines of our little valley to find perfect harmony for our dancer in the woods. In additional to the challenge of slippery rocks along the stream and wet moss covered logs, Chrissy discovered thorny leaves on the ground that kept stabbing into her bare feet. Her tolerance of pain was the envy of the crew as we watched her pull the sharp barbs out of her feet after each leap.
The colors of her outfits were magical against the backdrop of the rain-saturated forest. We had an a very successful shoot thanks to the beautiful, strong and talented Chrissy, my lovely daughter at my side as my assistant, Chrissy’s sister as her coach and the preparation that added rain jackets, a tarp and ropes to the backpack before we left our neighborhood.
The project is still not complete, we have a couple more poses and now, to include dancing in the rain, before we being to pick through the images to find our favorites. More to come!
